The painting entitled, “Tarawa-Storming the Seawall” was commissioned as a gift to the USS Tarawa and now resides in The Pentagon. Another major work, “Assault at Penobscot, 28 July 1779” was destroyed in the attack on The Pentagon on September 11th
Waterhouse’s paintings appeared as a backdrop for several scenes in the 1980 film starring Robert Duvall entitled, “The Great Santini.”
The popular television series, “JAG,” featured an episode, which specifically mentions Waterhouse and his career as military artist. His paintings were featured prominently within the storyline
Various shows on the History Channel featuring the Marine Corps and our country’s history have utilized paintings and drawings
Produced for the Bicentennial, an award-winning documentary entitled, “Birth of Our Nation,” highlighted Waterhouse’s 14 painting series, “Marines in the Revolution.”
Waterhouse’s works appear in dozens of magazines and major book publications. He is the author of six books
Waterhouse’s painting of the Marine Corps emblem, originally a poster for the Bicentennial, was later used in various publications, book jackets, and magazine covers. One of the crewmembers of the space shuttle was even taped wearing the picture on a T-shirt in space.

Waterhouse received countless awards during his career such as the: Legion of Merit; George Washington Freedom Award; Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award; Navy Commendation Medal; Marine Corps League National Commandant’s Special Award; Marine Corps Historical Foundation Distinguished Service Award; USMC Combat Correspondents Association Distinguished Service Award, The Military Order of St Louis.
